International Countering Misinformation/Disinformation Training by Mythos Labs and the United States Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia at Megarezky University Makassar, on Monday (26/6/2023).
Young people are the challenges of the future, including students of the Nursing Study Program, Megarezky University (Unimerz). Thus, training was held to fight hoaxes.
There were dozens of students trained directly by the Country Representative & Project Manager of Mythos Labs, Emmy Yuniarti Rusadi.
In this activity, Ms Sudirman, M.Kep as Chair of the Unimerz Nursing Study Program also warmly welcomed the initiative with special full support.
"Because we are aware that young people need to have access to useful information and international networks that support learning," he said.
This activity was opened directly by several remarks, namely from the digital CEO of Mythos Labs, Priyank Mathur and Umu Syauqah Al Musyahadah as Secretary of the Bioinformatics Study Program, Megarezky University.
It is known that this training is an activity supported by the United States Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia in dealing with the vulnerability of young people, especially those aged 17-25 years, to receiving misinformation/disinformation which has an impact on weakening social cohesion, vulnerability to exposure to radicalism and terrorism.
Previously, training was held in Jakarta and Medan with hundreds of participants. It is hoped that all participants will be able to disseminate the results of Mythos Labs research published in 2023 entitled "Assessing Media Literacy Gaps in Indonesia" which can be downloaded at https://mythoslabs.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Assessing-Media-Literacy -Gaps-in-Indonesia.pdf.
Apart from that, the knowledge that can be obtained includes knowing the categories of misinformation and disinformation, the differences between the two, identification, and how to protect yourself from targets of misinformation/disinformation.
Young people need to have the courage to report content containing misinformation/disinformation, at least so that such content does not continue to circulate.
This training is also very inclusive in that it is not carried out with mere formality, but is carried out by directly visiting the locations of communities which are the gateway to literacy or access to community knowledge.
According to research conducted by Mythos Labs, the city of Makassar is one of the cities in Indonesia with social vulnerability to exposure to hoaxes at a fairly high index, with a vulnerable age group of 17-25 years.
There are many advantages and benefits obtained by the participants who took part in this training, according to what most of the participants said. All participants have the opportunity to obtain digital certificates directly from Mythos Labs and the United States Embassy Jakarta, Indonesia.
In the future, this knowledge does not stop here, young people must continue to be a source of enlightenment for others by continuing to be alert to misinformation/disinformation.
For your information, Ns. was also present to accompany the Head of the Nursing Study Program at Megarezky University in the International Countering Misinformation/Disinformation training. Indargairi, M.Kep who is one of the Unimerz nursing lecturers.
