The Biomedical Science Undergraduate Study Program (Prodi), Faculty of Health Technology, Megarezky University successfully held a hybrid expert lecture, in the Meeting Room of the Unimerz Rectorate and via zoom meeting, on Thursday (13/10/2022).
Expert lecture activities featuring Prof. Dr. Ernawati Sinaga, MS, Apt as the speaker, carried the theme 'Directions for the Development of Bioprospecting in Indonesia'.
In his opening, Deputy Dean II of the Unimerz Faculty of Health Technology, Dr. Syamsudin Karsel, S.Pd, M.Pd, expressed his gratitude for Prof.'s willingness. Dr. Ernawati Sinaga MS, Apt to be a resource person in the expert lecture.
"Thank you, Prof, for agreeing to attend, even though it was only via Zoom and hindered by technology, but I hope our meeting will not reduce the substance of this expert lecture," he said.
“This (expert lecture) is one of our means to gain knowledge. We really hope that Prof. Dr. Ernawati Sinaga is pleased to share her knowledge, especially with the Biomedical study program. Moreover, Biomedicine is a young study program, because it has only been running for 2 years. "Of course, we still have many shortcomings and limitations, so we really need a lot of knowledge, including from Prof. Dr. Ernawati Sinaga," he added.
Apart from that, the Head of Biomedical Study Program FTK Unimerz, Miladiarsi, S.Si., M.Si, hopes that the expert lecture activities held can provide positive benefits for all students or participants who attend.
"Hopefully this activity can provide benefits to all of us, especially the participants who attended today's expert lecture," he hoped.
Meanwhile, in his presentation, Prof. Dr. Ernawati Sinaga MS, Apt briefly touched on the biological riches that Indonesia has. According to him, Indonesia is very rich in biodiversity, but humans are never aware of this.
“Indonesia is a country that has rich biodiversity. Based on research data, currently Indonesia is number 2 in the richest biodiversity. But that doesn't count the riches of the sea. If we calculate marine wealth, Indonesia can be said to be the number 1 country with the richest biodiversity. "So actually Indonesia is rich, but we are often not aware of the natural wealth we have," he said.
"Therefore, students from now on must actively find out about the wealth that is owned in Indonesia. If we don't know it, then how can we protect our natural wealth. We can even prospect existing natural materials to become something that can be commercialized. We can look for natural materials to use in our field. If we don't use it, plants will become extinct. Therefore, so that it doesn't become extinct, let's find out what its benefits are. "So this is our homework for all of us in the health sector," he added.
Not only that, he also advised all Biomedical Science students, that in the future when writing their final assignment (thesis) look for references from international journals or articles of substance.
"To my students, I ask all of you, if you are going to complete your final assignment, please use your internet connection to look for valuable articles or international journals as reference material for your thesis," he asked.
For your information, those attending the expert lecture were Deputy Dean II of the Unimerz Faculty of Health Technology, Chair and Secretary of the Biomedical Science Study Program, Chair and Secretary of the Bioinformatics Study Program, lecturers, staff and students of the Megarezky University Biomedical Science Study Program.
