TLM Unimerz D-IV Study Program Provides Education to the Bangkala Community about Metabolic Syndrome and POCT

The D-IV Medical Laboratory Technology (TLM) study program, Faculty of Health Technology, Megarezky University (Unimerz) held community service activities, with the theme 'Education on Metabolic Syndrome and Health Examination (POCT) in the Community' in Bangkala District, Jeneponto Regency, on Tuesday, (28/3/2023).

Some of the activities carried out include providing education regarding hypertension, diabetes mellitus, stroke and heart disease, gout, food ingredients that trigger metabolic syndrome, as well as POCT examinations including cholesterol, uric acid and blood sugar levels, blood pressure.

This service activity was also attended by permanent TLM D-IV lecturers, Unimerz KKN students, leaders and staff of Bangkala District, as well as the people of Bangkala District, Jeneponto Regency.

In his statement, Dr. Nirmawati Angria, S.Sc., M.Kes as Chair of the D-4 TLM Unimerz study program said that all the educational material provided was integrated with several courses in the TLM Unimerz D-IV study program.

"Extension to increase knowledge regarding metabolic syndrome diseases such as hypertension, gout, stroke and heart disease, diabetes mellitus, foods that trigger metabolic syndrome. POCT examination and education on examination results including cholesterol, uric acid and blood glucose and blood pressure. "All material is integrated in the clinical chemistry, hematology and pathophysiology courses in the TLM D4 study program," he said.

Not only that, he also hopes that holding this service activity can provide additional knowledge to the community, especially regarding metabolic syndrome.

"We hope that this educational activity can provide knowledge to the public regarding metabolic syndrome disease from an early age, the public must understand healthy lifestyles by paying attention to the factors that cause metabolic disease. "Moreover, these diseases are often and very often found in society," he hoped.

Meanwhile, Kasmuddin, S.Si., M.Kes as Chair of the Committee hopes that, after receiving education regarding metabolic syndrome, people can be more diligent in checking themselves at the nearest health center.

"Hopefully after this activity, people can check themselves regularly at the nearest health center," he said.
