Due to the high intensity of rain on Friday (18/11/2022), several areas in Makassar City, including Antang, Manggala District, experienced flooding.

Several residents' houses were submerged, forcing residents to evacuate. As a form of humanitarian concern, UKM KSR PMI Megarezky University (Unimerz) contributed to the evacuation process of flood victims.

In his statement, Saniatun Lestaluhu as head of the Disaster Management and Public Relations Department of UKM KSR PMI Unimerz said that his party and the team always contribute to handling disasters, including floods.

"UKM KSR PMI Unimerz always contributes to disaster management, including collecting disaster assessment data. Apart from that, we also provide health check services, such as checking blood pressure, temperature and giving medicine to flood victims in refugee camps. "We even provide psychological support for children affected by disasters," he said.

He also said that there were two evacuation points that were targeted for evacuation by the UKM KSR PMI Unimerz Team, namely at the Jabal Nur Mosque at Perumnas Antang and the Al-Anwar Mosque at Perumnas Antang Block 10.

"A total of 35 families were displaced," he said.

The Unimerz student also said that evacuating disaster victims was quite difficult and not easy to do. In fact, he said, there were several obstacles when his team wanted to carry out the evacuation.

“There are several obstacles. Especially when we carry out the evacuation process, we often encounter obstacles. Because every time we appeal to residents to immediately gather at the evacuation site, they instead choose to stay in their homes, for the reason that they want to defend their property. "So when the water intensity was high, we were a bit overwhelmed with the evacuation process," he said.

At the end of his statement, he hoped that after this incident the government could find a solution, so that flood disasters would no longer easily occur when the intensity of rain was high and hit residential areas, especially in the Manggala sub-district.

"Our hope in the future is that there will be a solution from the government to absorb water at flood locations in Blocks 10 and 8 of Perumnas Antang, Manggala District. So that if there is heavy rain there will be no flooding. "And for residents, we hope that we can prioritize personal safety before property," he hoped.

For information, disaster management actions were carried out by several organizations collaborating with each other, including the KSR PMI Unimerz unit, Makassar City BPBD and Makassar City Social Service.
